Weekend adventures

Saturday we fulfilled a vision: climbing at the gym with the Kid! Mom rocked the stroller with her knee while belaying. It worked! We got a good workout in, during which Kyler alternately slept or woke, looking around at all the textures and colors. Yesterday he behaved stoically at the deYoung Museum in SF - his favorite section was the New Guinnea exhibit. Today the doctor traumatized him with 3 vaccinations, but nothing a little breast feeding couldn't calm. When he came home he was still in a good enough mood to stop and smell the flowers. Life is good despite less than optimal sleep. :)

Sometimes he's happy...

... sometimes he's not! Actually, he's usually either a) happy, b) hungry, c) tired/sleeping. But not in that order - guess which is most common. :) Deanna "Milk Machine" Simon. Or, when I'm extra tired, "a slave to the feeding machine". Perspective is directly related to hours of consecutive sleep.

Yesterday and today he had several 30-minute sets of happy smiley interactive time. It was amazing! Interacting with him during these bouts really make him seem like a real person - it is precious and lovable. His favorite thing to do right now is baby yoga (from the book Itsy Bitsy Yoga) where he lays on his back and I move his arms and legs around while singing chanty kiddy songs.

Today he seems like he is able to focus better because he's really locking eye contact with me and other people. I move, his eyes follow. I think we're having a love affair. In fact, I'm still carrying around the contents of a fortune cookie from the fall: "You are going to have a new love affair". How true!

Big Baby Causes Sensation in Cancun

Check out this article. We're just happy that Kyler weighed less than half of what this baby weighed when he was born. The pic is the first image that came up when I typed "Huge Baby" into the Google image search.

Farmers Market Day

Kyler was 7 weeks old on Tuesday, and he's following the textbooks: starting to enjoy touch and sound. His bug wrist bands have rattles in them. They didn't entertain him for more than about a minute this morning, but the baby yoga class we went to today was a big hit. He loved all the movement, singing/chanting, and looking at all the other people, which I think is his favorite activity right now. Yesterday I went to ABC Bakery in Chinatown, got a 25-cent red bean bun, and sat for almost 15 minutes letting him watch the people come in and out. He was a happy camper until he yawned 3 times, the naptime signal.

Mom and Dad have been making lots of fresh carrot and apple juice at home, and Kyler joined me to re-supply today. Since I go every week (it's on our block), all the vendors we buy from at the Farmer's Market know us, which makes it feel very much like a small neighborhood.

Tonight we'll join RuthAnn, Matt, and Jonah at Chochmat Halev for Kyler's first Shabbat service. Lots of people and singing, so we expect him to enjoy it.

Then on Sunday Nana Carol and Papa are coming to visit. We'll be putting them to work cooking, shopping, and doing home improvements. Maybe we'll even get the webcam to work? Horray for grandparents! Maybe we'll make our favorite juice blend - carrot-apple-chard-beet-ginger. Minus the ginger if Papa's willing to have some. :) Gotta love living on the same street as farmer's market. Bonus points for Nana if she's willing to clean the juicer (hint hint).
